Abstract

Sports journalism stands out as a form of reporting of high social impact due to the universality of sport and also because of its deep-rooted intranational significance. This journalistic field runs through a moment of flourishing where new specialized media in the different platforms were born and thereby a profound transformation in their structures. This kind of journalism has become an innovative and extremely dynamic area, defined by its continuous exploration of new ways of storytelling embracing new digital technologies. This article focuses on some of the latest trends in sports journalism, which are claimed to show the way for the following years like new multimedia, interactives, data journalism or longform features.

Author Biography

  • José Luis Rojas Torrijos, Universidad de Sevilla (España)

    PhD in journalism from the University of Seville (Spain). He is an associate professor in the Department of Journalism II of the Faculty of Communication of the University of Seville and professor of journalism at EUSA Business University. Journalist in the Office of the Spokesman of the government of the Junta de Andalucía. His line of study is focused on sports journalism and style books, themes on which they deal with his doctoral thesis (Bases for the formulation of a book of style of last generation. Construction of a theoretical model valid for the written and digital sports media in Spanish language, 2010) and its four monographs: Information and Sport (2005), style books and global journalism in Spanish (2011), Quality sports journalism (2011 ) and loud and clear. Pronunciation Guide for the coverage of major international sporting events (2013).
